Is a batter credited with an at bat if an error was given to the fielding player?
Guess who got stuck with the scorebook. One of our players hit a slow roller to the first baseman who couldn't get the ball into his glove. I gave the first baseman an error (the whole team agreed). Does this count as an at bat for our hitter?
In your case it does count as an at bat. There are cases where it does not count as an at bat.
1) Catcher's Interference - if the batter hits the catchers glove with his bat while he's swinging he gets first base and the catcher is charged with an error. No at bat for the batter.
2) If there are less than two outs and a runner on third and the batter hits a fly ball to the outfield that would score the run easily but the fielder drops the ball then the batter is still charged with a sacrifice fly which is not an at bat.
3) If the batter does a sacrifice bunt and the defense makes an error trying to get him out at first there's no at bat.
4) A case where the batter hits a foul ball which is booted by the defense for an error which prolongs the at bat. If the batter ends up with a HBP, BB, or Sacrifice then he is not charged with an at bat but the defense is still charged with an error.
